Matthew Swanson

BIOGRAPHY

Mr. Swanson is Proterra’s Chief Legal Officer, and a Managing Director and founding member of the Proterra Credit team.

He oversees the firm’s legal and governance functions, advises on fund formation, transactions and strategic initiatives, and plays a key role in shaping and executing the firm’s credit strategy.  He led the development of the firm’s unitranche lending platform and remains actively involved in the diligence, structuring, execution and management of investments across the credit business.

Prior to joining Proterra, he worked at Wayzata Investment Partners, a private equity firm focused on direct lending to middle-market companies, distressed debt investments and special situations. Mr. Swanson began his career at Latham & Watkins LLP and subsequently worked at several law firms in Chicago, representing borrowers and lenders in a broad range of financing, restructuring and M&A-related matters.

Mr. Swanson holds a Master of Laws in Food and Agriculture from the University of Arkansas, a Master of Business Administration from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, a Juris Doctor from the University of Southern California, and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Michigan.
